Fashion Rules: When in doubt, add pant volume

Oversized pants are the workwear staple that work harder than many other trends.

For years, I have gravitated toward trousers with a little volume, whether that's a hip-slung tailored pant that sits low on the waist or a wide-leg style with a longer, more dramatic line. There's something about the ease of an oversized pant that instantly makes an outfit feel more modern and more effortless.

What I love most is that it shifts the focus to silhouette. When it's well tailored and fits properly through the waist and hips, the extra volume creates a clean, confident shape that feels professional rather than fussy.

Oversized doesn't have to mean sloppy. In fact, some of the most polished looks I see at work are built around a great pair of trousers with a little room to move.

The best part is that there's an oversized pant for just about everyone. If you're petite, a high-waisted wide leg can create the illusion of longer legs. If you have curves, a trouser that skims the hips and flows through the leg creates beautiful balance.
